Family Totem

Hi there,

The ''crazy planning of the death that kills'' is almost COMPLETE. We feel it sounds ''almost finished'' since forever now, right?
This project is so important for us, it's hard to know when you have to stop, it's also difficult to be satisfied or even confident about your own work, it's never enough perfect in our mind, #fatalityoftheartist :).
In the mean time, it's been an eternity now that we are working on, and to be honest, we feel most of the time depressed, I guess it's normal. We can't wait to move forward on other exciting projects. Anyway, no time to complain, let's finish this for real!

To take a little break, I made few doodles in my sketchbook, Fabien needed an idea to model something new in 3D, and that's how our family totem has been created. Here a funny GIF of the working progress, I am impressed and happy by the result! Well done Fabien!! Can't wait to see the final render!

Le planning de la mort qui tue est bientôt bouclé. On a la sensation que ça sera bientôt fini depuis un bail, vous trouvez pas?Ce projet est tellement important pour nous, c'est dur de savoir quand ni ou s'arrêter, c'est aussi difficile de se contenter ou même d'avoir confiance en notre travail, c'est jamais parfait à nos yeux, #fatalitedelartiste :).D'un autre côté, ça fait une éternité maintenant qu'on travaille dessus, pour être tout à fait honnête, la plupart du temps ça nous déprime vraiment, j'imagine que c'est normal. On a juste hâte de passer à autre choses et entamer de nouveaux projets super chouettes! Bref pas le temps de se plaindre, finissons ce qu'on a commencé!!Pour changer un peu d'air, j'ai gribouillé dans mon carnet, Fabien avait besoin d'une idée pour modéliser quelque chose de nouveau en 3D, et c'est comme ça que le totem de notre famille est né.Voici un petit GIF rigolo du travail en cours, je suis impressionnée et contente du résultat! Bravo Fabien, hâte de voir l'image finale.On retourne travailler.A bientôt mes compagnons!

Voici un petit second snapshot sur notre travail, un mix de 2D/3D. Que dîtes-vous de ça? :)

Si tout va bien, à partir de mai je n'aurai plus que de l'animation à faire tandis que Fabien travaillera sur les rendus.
Difficile à croire, mais je pense que La Fin est proche les gens, tic-tac-tic-tac (enfin on espère)!

We are finally back after a too-long break! But back more motivated than ever.
We are working hard, and because we released already a trailer and many pictures, from now we decided to show you only snippets of the final renders, we don't want to spoil everything and let you the surprise when you'll watch the entire movie  :)
However, we will do our best to update the blog at least once per month until the final countdown.

Y'a quelqu'un ici ?!

Nous sommes enfin de retour après une trop longue pause! Mais revenons plus motivés que jamais.
Nous travaillons durement, et puisque nous avons déjà publié un trailer et de nombreuses photos, à partir de maintenant nous avons décidé de vous montrer que des bribes de rendu final, nous ne voulons pas tout gâcher et vous laisser la surprise quand vous regardez le film terminé :) ...
Cependant, nous ferons de notre mieux pour mettre à jour le blog au moins une fois par mois jusqu'à l'ultime fin.

Ps: Si tout va bien, cet été sera la fin (Oui oui Fabien! j'ai décidé, un point c'est tout).

Stand-by

Hi from London & Hej from Stockholm! :)

As you probably figured it out, the project is currently in stand-by (since last summer). Our friends and our family asked us why the movie is not over yet. Well, unfortunately we have been really busy for some reasons...
We already spent more than 2 years on this project now, and it's so long when I think about it, but once again, I was working the most of the time on the movie while Fabien was able to help me only during evenings and weekends until now.
Otherwise, we actually left our little working nest where the project is born, then we got married (hiphiphurray!), Fabien got a new job in Stockholm at Dice, and I had the opportunity to work in London at Prime Focus thanks to CG students award. That's the bright side I guess.
We try to work individually with distance, obviously it's not easy. I know, we don't really need to justify ourself, but it's a good way to clarify everything! We really love our project and want to finish it.
In January, everything will be settled down for good in Stockhom, and we hope to release the whole movie as soon as possible. We will work hard for this. I already know what we will post in the next update (teaaasing), so please, keep following us!

Comme vous l'avez probablement remarqué, le projet est actuellement en stand-by (depuis l'été dernier). Nos amis et notre famille nous ont demandé pourquoi le film n'est pas encore terminé. Eh bien, malheureusement, on a été vraiment débordé pour diverses raisons... 

Nous avons déjà passé plus de 2 ans sur ce projet maintenant, et ça commence à être long quand j'y pense, mais encore une fois, Fabien avait un travail et nous n'étions donc que 1 et demi sur le projet jusqu'à maintenant.

Sinon, nous sommes partis de notre petit nid de travail où le projet a vu le jour, nous nous sommes mariés (youpi!), nous avons déménagé, Fabien a obtenu un emploi à Stockholm à Dice, et j'ai eu l'occasion de travailler à Londres à Prime Focus grâce à CG students awards. C'est le bon côté des choses, je suppose. 

Nous essayons de travailler individuellement à distance, et de toute évidence ce n'est pas facile. Désolé pour ce long texte, nous n'avons pas vraiment besoin de nous justifier, mais c'est une façon de clarifier les choses et remettre les choses au point dans notre esprit! Nous voulons vraiment terminer ce projet qui nous tient très à coeur. En Janvier, tout sera réglé pour de bon, et nous espérons finir le film dès que possible. Nous allons travailler dur pour cela. Je sais dejà ce que je vais faire pour la prochaine up du blog (suspens), alors s'il vous plaît, continuez de nous suivre!

A little update to thank my best friend : the very talented Maëlle Cheval, she is the biggest fan of La Lettre in the world. That's not the only reason I thank her, indeed she found an amazing thing for my birthday, look how cute is this airmail shape necklace! Each time someone thinks about our project, we are totally glad about it! One more time, thank you very much Maëlle, it's very sweet! ♥

Une petite mise à jour pour remercier ma meilleure amie : la très talentueuse Maëlle Cheval, c'est la plus grande fan de notre film dans le monde entier. Mais ce n'est pas la seule raison de cet article, en effet, pour mon anniversaire elle a trouvé un super cadeau, regardez comment ce collier en forme d'enveloppe airmail est mignon! First of all, thank you so much for your support around the world! 323 people like our FB page.
Don't hesitate to share the project around you, it is very helping to know you are behind us :) .
The project is little bit slowed for some reasons, indeed we have been overtaken by events. However it's still in a good way even if we are not able to give you a release date for the moment!
We keep going and will finish this film for sure. By the way, we will post a preview of an environment soon.

Tout d'abord, merci à tous pour votre soutien partout dans le monde!
323 personne aime notre page Facebook. N'hésitez pas à partager le projet autour de vous, ça nous aide davantage de savoir que vous êtes derrière nous :). Le projet est un peu ralenti pour certaines raisons, en effet nous avons été quelque peu dépassés par les événements. Cependant, le projet est en bonne voie, même si nous ne sommes pas en mesure de donner une date de sortie pour le moment!
Nous tenons bon et finirons ce film quoiqu'il arrive!
Au passage, nous publierons un aperçu d'un environnement assez bientôt.

Artbook Café Salé

Hi everybody !

Guess what ? Our dear Charles is in the new artbook of CFSL.NET which has been released this month of May :). You can find it on internet or in French bookstores. 

We are currently working on a very important part of the movie, but we can't show you anything for the moment (surprise, surprise!). We are really excited to see the movie with soundtracks and can't wait to show you the result by then. We hope we will be able to finish all well and soon, and that you guys will enjoy it.  By the way, here is already June, we have to hurry seriously and say goodbye for a while.

Salut tout le monde !

Devinez quoi ? Notre cher Charles est dans le nouvel artbook de CFSL.NET qui a été publié ce mois-ci. Vous pouvez le trouver sur le net ou dans les librairies françaises. Nous sommes en train de travailler sur une partie super importante du film, mais on ne peut rien vous montrer pour le moment (suprirse, surprise!). On est super excité à l'idée de voir le film avec les soundtracks et de vous montrer le résultat du coup. On espère qu'on sera capable de finir tout ça bien et à temps, et que vous apprécierez le film :). D'ailleurs, on est déjà en juin, ça craint ! Faut qu'on se bouge les fesses sérieusement, on va laisser ce blog un peu à l'abandon du coup, car on est pas si loin de la fin après tout. Merci pour votre soutien!

Renders : Marguerite's house

Still a couple of weeks before we post the trailer. In the meantime, we want to show you a breakdown of Marguerite's house from A to Z.





It is interesting to see the progression of this environment, we spent a long time working on it, and it was certainly the hardest one because of all the props and vegetation we had to make.

We could have spent even more time on it because there is still plenty of room for improvement, but there's a movie waiting to be done. Time to move on !

Bonjour,

Plus que deux semaines avant de poster le trailer. En attendant, nous voulons vous montrer un breakdown de la maison de Marguerite  de A à Z.
C'est intéressant de voir la progression de ce décor, on a travaillé un bon moment dessus, et c'était sûrement le plus complexe à cause de tous les objets et végétation qu'on avait à faire.

On aurait pu passer encore plus de temps dessus car il y a toujours moyen de faire mieux, mais il reste un film à faire. Il était temps de passer à autre chose !

Fabien wrote a lovely letter for my birthday and he gave me a vintage set of stamps and ink pad. He printed the stamps that I drew recently, it's a really good idea. It fits perfectly with the subject of our project :) !
In a few weeks we will publish the trailer of the movie. Can't wait.

Pour mon anniversaire, Fabien m'a écrit une jolie lettre et il m'a offert un joli kit de tampons à l'ancienne.
Il a imprimé les timbres que j'avais dessiné dernièrement, c'est vraiment une chouette idée. C'est bien en raccord avec le thème de notre projet :) ! 
Plus que quelques semaines, et on mettra enfin en ligne le trailer du film. Hâte d'y être.

Hi everyone, 

We just finished the postman's office ! I did the environment and textures, and Fabien worked on the lighting, the rendering and the compositing. Actually, it's exactly what I had in mind for the atmosphere of this scene, so I am really satisfied with the 3D render.

Besides, Fabien updated the render of Charles, with the latest textures and shaders.

On vient juste de terminer le bureau du facteur ! Je me suis occupée de l'environnement et des textures et Fabien s'est chargé de l'éclairage, du rendu et du compositing.En fait, c'est exactement ce que j'avais à l'esprit pour l'atmosphère de ce décors, donc je suis vraiment contente du résultat !

Sinon, Fabien a mis a jour le rendu de Charles, avec de nouvelles textures et matériaux.

Turnaround of Charles

These last two weeks were not the most productive we've had. Rachel's motherboard fried and had to be replaced, my new computer arrived and just wanted me to built it, windows and softwares had to be reinstalled... But while doing all this IT work, we finally finished the postman turnaround, and this post will be the official opening of our production blog!

We'll start talking about our project on forums, to get critics and feedbacks, hopefully good ones :) Either way we're sure that this will boost our motivation, as we've now reached the point of no return, we can't go back!

Ces deux dernières semaines n'ont pas été des plus productives. La carte mère de Rachel nous a lâché, il a fallu la remplacer, mon nouveau pc est arrivé et n'attendait plus que je le monte, il a fallu reinstallé windows et compagnie... Mais malgré tout ce boulot de maintenance, on a enfin fini le turnaround du facteur, et ce post servira d'ouverture officielle de notre blog de production!

On va commencer à parler de notre projet sur les forums, pour recevoir des critiques, en espérant qu'elles soient plutôt bonnes :)
Quoiqu'il arrive, ca boostera notre motivation, parce qu'on ne pourra plus faire machine arrière!
